Hello and welcome to our vacation home in Cairanne, the well known Côtes du Rhône Village wine village in the Provence.
We lived in this house for nearly 3 years (it was only meant to be a couple of months!) and we are able to provide all our guests with a comprehensive visitor folder, recommending the best places to visit, best restaurants and some "non touristy" places we discovered from the locals. There is so much to see and to do within an hour of our house.
Cairanne is located 15 km Southwest of Vaison-la-Romaine and 40 km North of Avignon, right in the heart of the Southern Côtes du Rhône wine region. The setting is very peaceful with wonderful views towards Mt.Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Luberon. The Northern Provence retains its original character; it is all about village life, markets, vineyards and outdoors. Very quiet location, yet you are close to many activities, a very special hideaway in the Provence.

Our comfortable 3 bedroom home accommodates 6 adults and up to 2 kids. It is located just below the old Knights Templar ramparts of the Vieux Village, the quiet, historic part of Cairanne. From the village street the house is very secluded. Once you are inside the property you realize it is a fairly large house on 3 levels with a large living room, dining area, kitchen and three bedrooms. It has terraces on 2 levels, beautiful views, a stunning infinity swimming pool and a wonderful garden with many native flowers and an olive grove. The new village of Cairanne is only a 5-minute walk from our house; very convenient to shop or have a light meal in Cairanne's excellent bistro and wine bar, Le Tourne au Verre.
The living room is a lovely room seating 6 - 8 people. We have a comfortable large sofa, matching love seat and 2 armchairs. Large windows with panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains let you feel close to nature even while indoors. The room is equipped with satellite TV (incl. English language channels like France 24, BBC World News, EuroNews, CNN and CNBC), VHS multi-system player, DVD/CD player and stereo loudspeakers. We have a nice selection of US, English and French books, DVDs and VHS tapes, as well as board games. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living room, where you can snuggle up with a good book, a glass of red Côtes du Rhône Village and listen to music. During the summer the vine covered walls and shades keep the house agreeable.
Even if there are few annoying insects here, screens are on all windows in bedrooms, bathrooms and living quarters. The 3 bedrooms are equipped with ceiling fans.
The dining area has a handcrafted cherry table and dining chairs, comfortably seating 6 people but can accommodate up to 8. On the upper terrace in front of the living room is the outside dining area; a very pleasant place with sweeping views to Mt.Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Luberon Mountains, the Rhone valley and its vineyards. There is an abundance of roses right in front of where you sit. The tile covered Moroccan table seats 8 persons.
Our Provençal style kitchen is equipped with:
- gas stove top
- wall mounted oven
- microwave
- dishwasher
- refrigerator and freezer
- coffeemaker, water boiler, toaster, blender/food processor
- pots, pans and all kitchen utensils
- plates, cups, glasses and cutlery
There is a well equipped covered barbecue area outside with an initial supply of charcoal. You are ready to go! Oh, sausages and steaks are not included.
Our house has 3 comfortable bedrooms; each has its own terrace:
- The Duplex with a queen-size bed (60''x 80'') and en-suite bathroom (shower, wash basin, toilet and hairdryer) on the upper level and a sofa bed (53''x 75'') on the lower level. Large chest of drawers and closet offer ample storage space.
- The Master Bedroom with a queen-size bed (60''x 80'') and an ante-room with an antique mirrored chest of drawers and armchair. The two built-in closets provide for ample storage space.
- The large Guest Bedroom has 2 twin beds (38''x 75''), which can easily be pushed together thus making it well suitable for children as well as adults. The antique walnut Provençal armoire provides for plenty of storage space. There is a marble top bistro table with two chairs.
There is 1 roll-away twin bed with a comfortable mattress available, which easily fits into any of the 3 bedrooms. Ample supply of blankets, linens and towels at no additional charge.
The main bathroom is equipped with jet bathtub, shower, wash basin, toilet and hairdryer. An additional bathroom (shower, toilet, wash basin) is located in the Pool House. Together with the en-suite bathroom of Dentelles Bedroom there are 3 bathrooms. A guest toilet is on the main floor.
The infinity swimming pool (16 x 36 ft, 4 1/2 - 6 ft deep) has an automatic low chlorine filtration system and a suction cleaning robot. There are 6 pool lounge chairs, 2 deck chairs and, in the secluded patio, a table with 6 chairs. In the summer time the patio is covered with a sun shade. The pool house contains fitness equipment; there is a rain forest shower next to it.
The laundry room in the basement is equipped with a Bosch washer and dryer, a laundry sink, ironing facilities as well as clothes lines if this preferred. Cleaning supplies (vaccuum cleaner, brooms, dusters, etc.) for the house are available.
For guests who can't quite "unplug" we offer a PC with broadband (DSL) internet access free of charge. If you rather want to bring your own laptop you can access our broadband connection via WLAN.
From the street you enter through a front gate into the yard covered with the typical sand colored gravel common in the Provence. There is parking space for 2 to 3 cars.
